Working for the Weekend...
Hola Matadors!
Our Kickstarter is 99% funded! 99%… we’ll get to that in a bit.
I have, and have always had a love hate relationship with Kickstarter. I mean, I do love it. It’s allowed me to get Monster Matador in your hands, meet some really great people and work with some amazing artists. But, oh, do I hate the grind the of it. The emails. The tweets. The constant social media blasts… a necessary evil given how hard the algorithms try to bury it all. Of course, it wasn’t all this way. When we first started five years ago it actually wasn’t so bad. These days it’s a constant uphill battle, which is a long way of saying, I hope you’re not annoyed!
I’ve been working on some other things outside of Monster Matador. I have a pitch that’s almost ready to be sent out, a dream project and love letter to the golden age of Hong Kong action movies. Carmilla Unbound: 1984 (that’s on Kickstarter now too!) co-writer Dave Schrader and I have also written a screenplay together that is currently being shopped around so… fingers crossed. I’ve also got a fully written spy comedy mini-series that’s ready to go. So hopefully you’ll be seeing a some other things from me outside of everybody’s kaiju fighting Matador in the near future.
Comic-wise I’ve been reading David Pepose’s lates, Cable: Love and Chrome, which has been fantastic. I’ve always been more of a Cable guy than Deadpool so this one hits my sweet spot.
Deadpool Wolverine has been fun as well. It’s about as crazy as one would hope it would be and the art from Josh Cassara is top-notch.
Popeye - the EC Sugar Sundays is hilarious. These are the original Sunday strips published by Fantagraphics and they’re just as funny as they were back a 100 years ago!
Movies - I watched Kraven the Hunter so you don’t have to! Not really, it’s a fine way to kill time if you need to. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t really move the needle in any way.
Captain America Brave New World - this one didn’t quite come together. There were a lot of moving parts that never quite gelled, though both Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford gave some good performances.
Alright, Kickstarter time. We are so close to funding Monstradores and getting into stretch goals. If you can pledge, or plan on it, please consider doing so today. We’ve got some great rewards and extras like t-shirts and original art from the great Puis Calzada, official artist of Metallica’s 2024 tour (how cool is that?!) You can check out the campaign HERE:
And finally, a little peak at the upcoming BLOOD OF THE MATADOR:
Have a great weekend!
